Maxwell, I think what Greg is referring to is the ability to upload real
files to the site root. This is usually needed for one of two things. 1) Google
site maps, which unfortunately insists on a very specifically named file at the
site's root, no redirects allowed. 2) Some service that will use your site and
wants to verify that you're the site's webmaster by uploading a specifically
named file to the root of the site.
Regarding Google Site Maps, there are plans to develop a module to allow for these to be generated for your site.
Greg,
Could you please explain your comment "Upload files to root of
site!"?
RE: "The Editor Toolbar buttons are unreadable against the black background
when using the Classic Black skin." - DONE
The Editor Toolbar buttons are unreadable against the black background when
using the Classic Black skin.
Upload files to root of site!
The size limitation for an attachment is currently fixed at 250meg. It would
be helpful (dare I say critical) for public EditMe sites in particular if this
limit could be set at site level. Besides the obvious fear of spammers, etc.,
even the well intentioned, but less tech savvy users could clog up the site.
With your average digital cameras now cranking out massive jpegs, and everybody
with high speed connections, many don't pay attention to file sizes anymore.
Maybe even a filter to limit file types for attachment? Not as important, but
an idea.
VERY SIMPLE CHANGE
The _Forgot page emails users their username and password if they have
forgotten it. The title of the page should be Forgot Password or User Name
instead of Forgot Password, since both are sent via email. My users get very
confused if they forgot the username since they do not know that they can use
that page to retrieve it. This is a simple change that makes life easier.
When approving a new registered user, the administration has three options:
Locked, Administrator, and Registered. It would be also useful to have a fourth
option: Delete (which would delete an user that is asking for
registration).
pjaffe, the
cache setting for attachments is a trade-off. A very small subset of EditMe
customers make heavy use of frequently updated attachments, and for these
customers the setting can be understandably troublesome. It should be
configurable at the site level, so let that be the suggestion. For the vast
majority of EditMe sites, this setting provides a noticable performance
improvement and allows customers to use considerably less bandwidth.
It seems that all wiki pages are delivered with the no-cache directive.
However, links for the most recent file attachment appear to have a 1 hour
expiration (I mean the links that appear in the attachments table that don't
contain the .version. qualifier and just pull the latest version). As a result,
users can inadventantly continue to get an older version for an hour after a new
version is actually available. Is there a reason not to just use the no-cache
directive across the board?
On behalf of geofff in Questions: The JavaScript API is lacking access to
page version and recent history information.
From Carl via support ticket:
Might you consider adding to the detailed logs a record of each time a user
logs-in, noting the username that logged-in?
On behalf of support ticket: Track user access information (who has logged
in, when and how often).
On behalf of Mark: Please could you make the Page Security "Replace Security
on the Pages below with" behave like the "Users" page with check boxes beside
each item and a "Check All", "Check None" option? When I want to change security
on a lot of pages e.g. where i move one branch of the tree to an area of my site
that has different security i have to go edit the properties of each page one at
a time. with the proposed change this task would be very easy.
Suggestion emailed from Marius: When hyperlinking text and selecting Link
List, the name of the page in this list doesn't change even if you rename it.
This list should be the same as the list you see when you go to the
Index.
The login screen has a link that says "Forgot your password" It would be
useful if it said "Forgot your password or user name" since if you click on it
it asks your email address and sends both automatically.
Infrequent users may have forgotten both the user name and password!
On behalf of customer: Off-line capability.
Automated references / footnotes such that the numbered footnote gets
appended to the end of page, ordered.
Re: Recent Changes email
I agree with Duff about the importance of aggregating all the changes in the
same page. In fact, if you look at the RSS feed for the changes, the changes are
aggregated.
FONT SIZE IN THE EDITOR
I spent several hours adding a large fornt size for the first paragraph on
each of my pages using the "font size" drop menu in the editor. Eventually, I
discovered that in some modern browsers the font did not change size. This is
because the "font size" drop menu adds a <font> tag which now is becoming
obsolete and not recognized by some modern browners!
I would recommend that editme eliminates the font size menu from the editor
(or implements it without the <font> tag) to avoid problems for other
users.
I solved my problem by simply using the format drop menu, which adds
<h> tags instead of <font> tags.
Re: Recent Changes email.
Currently, files uploaded or Comments added to a page appear to trigger a
subtly separate notification from simple page edits. This separate notification
reports just the page-name, not the page title. Example....
-------------------------
Changes made to ### in the last 2 hours:
B036 Manage Internet Access settings not honored
B036
------------
IMHO, the correct notification encompassing the above would have been:
-----------
B036 Manage Internet Access settings not honored
Hola de Barcelona
I'd like a Global Search and Replace feature, as mentioned in previous
suggestions (e.g. of 2006/02/09).
This would be perfect when you need to change some standard text - e.g.
headings, intros - to something else. Would save having to re-visit every
page.
Must be easy to implement, I would imagine.
Wouldn't it be nice if you could:
blueBarn, the way this is traditionally accomplished with wikis is for each
user to create a page with their user name. They can upload photos and populate
it with anything they like. If you want to use a template, you can create a
Profile page template and ask users to select that when creating their page. You
can also create these pages for them as an administrator.
EditMe looks like it does everything I would like to do, but one thing I
haven't seen is the ability to have user create user profiles (like facebook w/
a pic & a bit about themselves). Is there a way to accomplish this? I will
use EditMe as part of our intranet to act as a blog & as a wiki.
Thanks
From a customer: Add the ability to make fields required in the Email Form feature.
It would be nice if EditMe branched out a little and offered full site
hosting with the Wiki product as part of the package.
Right now i have my wiki connected to my main site and because of Edit Me's
great templating system, no one can tell the difference, but why have two
hosting companies when I could just do it all from here!
I would gladly move my site over and pay extra a month for the convience of
hosting my regular site and the wiki all in one place.
I think it would be nice if you allowed users to upload and delete files from
the root of the site!
The "Recent Changes" emails that are auto-generated by our editme wiki only
give a brief description of what has changed. They cut off after a pre-defined
number of characters. For example, an update might say something like:
PageTitle
I have searched all the pages I can find on wiki.editme pertaining to the
update emails and have come up blank. Is it possible, or will it be possible in
the future, to have the full comment included in the "Recent Changes"
email?
Thank you so much!
The option to export to PDF. I've seen these generators on some
WYSIWYG editors like that of phpmyfaq etc.
I would love to have a tag that I
could place on any page that would list all of the backlinks for that page.
(moved from Questions page) [Reto, 2007-01-09] When I
insert an anchor (WYSIWYG) and then click "clean up messy code" everything gets
screwed up (actually tons of new identical anchors are created throughout the
page)!? By the way: the behavior differs between IE and Firefox, but both have
very devastating effects.
Wouldn't it be great if ...... a "watch this page" function was available for
users to monitor changes to selected pages.
Wouldn't it be great if new users
could register and the security settings could be managed so he/she could
automatically create a new page without having access to edit other peoples
pages. This function can be set up using "Sticky Pages" under "Policies" but
requires the adminitrator to set up the first page for the new user with the
required security settings. This will cause the Index to become overcrowded
with pages which may remain blank. A separate "policy" is also required for
each New User which may become quite cumbesome if membership grows.
When choosing “Security” for a page,
it would be extremely helpful to me to be able to pick a combination of groups
as opposed to only being able to choose only one.
Groups are very helpful; however, I
am facing situations when I want to give access to a page to all the members of
a group + a specific individual who is not and should not be part of the group.
There are other situations where I would like to give access to all the members
of a group + all the members of another group. Right now, I solve the problem
by creating new groups. For example:
Group K = Group A + Group X (GroupX
being a group that only includes user X)
Group O = Group B + Group
D
I then choose Group K or Group O in
the Security pull down menu
However the number of combination
Groups (such as K and O above) in increasingly rapidly. It would be great to be
able to have a Security pull down menu where I could CTRL Click several groups
and get the logical OR of these groups which would show in the Security Menu
(e.g. Automotive + John + Ann) so that I can go back at a later time to check
who has access to that page.
Thanks
From customer support request: If I forget my password I have to
change it, as you send the password in an open email. These days the industry
norm is to send a link to an "Enter New Password" page (usually with an
activation key in the email) - could you implement this?
It would be nice if one of the options under registrations was an optiont o
link to an external database to get username and password information. This
might be a little tricky but all you would need to do is ask for a few
things
database server
database name
table name
username field
password field
password encryption (how the password is encrypted in the table, if any...
this would have to be a drop down of known types like md5 etc.)
With that information, the wiki could easily authenticate off of any
database.
[originally from Ewan] (moved from the Questions page) Date Format - Can I
encourage you to do something about date formats to make this service usable in
Europe where 9/11 is the 9 of November. For example when you at page version the
date is shown as m/d/yy a simple solution is to use mmmm/d/yy eg. Sept 9 07
(which works for English speakers at least) It also work in all the other
European languages (mmm works for all but French) I have had to abandon using
other US based service because ambiguous dates like 9/11 cause much
confusion
The following properties would be more than welcome:
On behalf of user support ticket: Email warning system for bandwidth overuse
(or projected overuse) ... prior to disabling the site.
On behalf of user support ticket: "I was thinking it would be nice to have a
special tag in editme that could be used to hide content in a page from everyone
except administrators... or maybe even something that hides it from everyone
except logged in users. Comments
This can be fixed by modifying the CSS to set
.mceToolbarContainer{ background-color: #CCCCCC;}
but is seems like that
should be the default. I had to submit a question to learn this trick.
This would be most helpful
to see users that have been given view-only accounts to determine if/when they
actually log-in to view the material we have posted for them.
I know the
detailed logs today do show all accesses, but they are are only indexed by
IPaddrress. To find if such a read-only user has actually logged-in, (who's
IPaddr you do not know ahead of time), you need to parse the logs and exclude
all previously known IPaddr to see what reamins.
This is a very easy change that would be very helpful.

1. Automatically generate top-3 lists to
your front page of:
* most watched pages
* most edited pages
*
most recently edited pages
* most active users of your site.
The list
would neet to exclude some non-content pages.
2. Have an easier way to put a
counter in an editme-site.

12:00 AM - Comment added by User: I have this important change to the
wiki. Let me tell you...
1) Captchas to email
forms
2) Possibility to edit system files by admin or as chargable customer
service, or customisable registeration forms
I know that this is possible by using includes,
however, there are a lot of times when I am creating a page, I want to add a
sentance or a few notes that I don't want others to see, just the admins, it'd
be really convienent to just have a tage I could insert like [Hide] or something where anything between the starting and
ending tags is hidden from everyone except the admins."
