Yorktown Skins
Yorktown is the new default set of skins for EditMe sites. Yorktown makes better use of screen space, improves standards compliance, improves ease of use and provides more finely tuned customization options than the previous Acton skins. This page provides a version history of the Yorktown skins as well as documentation to its various customization features.

What's New in Yorktown?
Notable features of the Yorktown skins include:
- Tool links are now all visible rather than nested in dropdown menus.
- Tool links are grouped by function and displayed in contextual locations rather than all at the top of the screen. For example, Edit Menu is in the Menu area, while Edit Page is in the Page area.
- A powerful (though still somewhat experimental) Styles Editor has been introduced to provide significant customization capability without getting into CSS code. See Style Editor for details.
- Style sheets are based on a considerably more robust foundation (for the geeks, it's YAML) to avoid many of the formatting inconsistencies experienced in the Acton and Newton skins.
- A much requested option to hide the tools menus for anonymous users has been added.
- An alternate one-column layout is included to hide the left column Menu area for the whole site or as applied to individual pages.
- The Skin Settings page has been made a standard part of Site Settings (see the Design menu) so that a link in the front-end navigation is no longer needed.
- Makes use of CSS3 rounded corners for browsers that support it (Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
Yorktown Settings
The Yorktown Settings screen is a special page that provides customization options for your site's design. You can use these tools to customize the banner image at the top of your site, the text that appears above the banner image, manage the links in the top navigation bar and menu area, and customize the style sheet for your site.
After you've applied one of the Yorktown skins to your site, you can navigate to the Yorktown Settings screen as follows:
- Settings (usually a "Settings" link somewhere on your site). You'll need to log into your site as an administrator to see this link.
- Look & Feel (in the top menu bar of Settings)
- Current Skins Settings
Upgrading to Yorktown
If you created your site before the Yorktown skins were released, you may want to upgrade. Here are some things to consider when upgrading.
The Top Navigation Bar
The top navigation bar in Yorktown skins is managed the same way as newer versions of the Acton skins. That is, the children page of NavBar1 - a special hidden page created for this purpose - are used as the links in the top navigation bar. The Page Relationships: the Organize tab features are used to manage these links, and a link to the Organize panel of the NavBar1 page is provided in the Yorktown Settings screen. If you've already been managing your top navigation bar this way, your links will be preserved.
If you are using an older version of the Acton skins, your top navigation links may be in a page as a bulleted list. If you're used to managing your top navigation links this way, make a note of what links you've got there before upgrading so you can recreated them using the newer method.
Menu Area
The Menu works much like all of the previous skins. Whatever content you have in your Menu page will remain after upgrading. However, the Yorktown Settings page (see above) provides suggestions for what to include here. For example, you may want to include a site search box, or a tree navigation that extends the hierarchy started at the Top Navigation level. See the Yorktown Settings page for instructions.
