Password protect public pages

The way to do this is have those folks register and use EditMe's Groups and Policies features to set up custom security for the specific pages that need to be protected. See this page for more details:

Note that this feature is available with the Standard plan or better.

Yep, understand the group functionality. But there's no reason some people need to register. I'm describing a very specific workflow, bypassing the registration requirement and making some private documents easily accessible with only a password.
This isn't a difficult feature to implement by the way and opens up the way people interact with the wiki exponentially.
