John I says:

We'd like to split our site in two. One group of users would have access to part A and another group to part B. I know how to manage this access through groups.

The site landing page would link to both Part A and Part B. My question is how to remove the navbar from this landing page and how to use different navbars for Part A and Part B.

Do I just create navbar2 and then associate the correct pages as children?

Thanks!

After doing a bit more research and testing, it appears that we can't limit page viewing to a specific group? Any plans for this feature to be released? It's pretty important to us and would seem to be similar to the current group permissions for attachments, editing, etc.

Answering myself here on that last part - had forgotten about policies. Only initial question regarding second navbar and, I think, some CSS editing remains.

John,

The ability to support two different navigation bars would require a Layout customization. You can do this yourself, but it gets a bit technical. See Layouts for information about Layout customization. EditMe offers professional services that can perform this kind of work for an hourly fee.

Removing the nav bar from a single page is fairly easily done with an "if" statement added to your layout. Deciding whether to show NavBar1 or NavBar2 on all subsequent pages would require some way to programmitcally know which navbar to show. For example, if all pages in Part A where children or ancestors of a specific page, and likewise for Part B, that could be used as the test.
