Creating a new page as a child of the current page???
kurokaze204 says:
Hi,
I have created several child pages from my Welcome page.
I have created links on one of the child pages. When I click on a link it correctly asks if I want to create a new page, but when I say yes, it creates it as a child of the main page of the wiki instead of a child of the page the link was on???
How do I make new pages automatically belong under the page that created them? My users will not grasp the organise tab concept everytime they create a new page.
Thanks.

Hi - pages don't automatically become children of the page last viewed. It's a good suggestion though. My sense is there's some sites where that would make sense, but an equal number that would find it confusing just the same. I'll consider making it an option.
So, to answer your question, when you create a new page, it's relationships on the Organize tab are defined by those on the Template selected when creating it. So if you have 5 top level pages and you want new pages from those five to be created underneath them, you could create 5 template pages, each with the parent set to one of those pages.
You can also link to the _NewPage with a specified template pre-selected, like this: /_NewPage?template=SomeTemplate (assuming there's a template page on your site named SomeTemplate).
See Page Templates for more on templates.
Cheers,
Matt

Ouch.
Thanks for the quick help Matt but I am dealing with users who are already under the pump and creating 100-odd pages in one big pile is not going to work for them and the time it takes them to work it out will cause them to give up and blame the tool as "too hard to use".
Our other wiki has 17,000 pages. This one won't be any where near as large (different project and approach), but still hierarchy is what they are used to.

Just curious, what wiki are you using for the other site that creates new pages underneath the current page?

No problems. We are using Atlassian Confluence.
This project is for a different part of the group though and I want to keep them seperate. I also wanted to try out your product and thought this was a good size project to give it a go.
The project involves creating sm,all checklists for all the financial procedures on the business system as the girls are actually doing them. Non-tech users with very little time on their hands, but all doing the same jobs, so recording the procedures on paper would be a nightmare. Hoping to use the wiki to let them collaboratively evolve them quality-wise over time.
I appreciate your help Matt.
