more security options for forums

Forums / Suggestions

I love the forum module, as it's the only way I know of at this time for people to subscribe to specific pages in the wiki. Unfortunately, the security options don't match the specific security policies I've created.

I can understand why they are different - the forums actually have some more complex (and very useful) security options, like the private setting, but I'd like to create a forum for just one group of registered users.

I manually went in and changed the security setting of the forum by editing the page, then did the same thing with the forum topics I created, but I don't want to have to do this with every new topic.

Would it be possible to add a "custom" option at the bottom of the existing list of security policies, then if that is clicked have a pop-up or something with the specific policies a site has created?

Thanks,

Elizabeth!

Elizabeth,

That's a great suggestion. There is a 2.0 version of the Forums module planned (though fairly far off at this point - not even scheduled yet) - this is a great feature to include.

In the meantime, the forum module could be customized to include this functionality on your site as a professional services project.

Cheers,
Matt

Matt,

It's great to hear a new version of the forums will be out sometime! I love the module in its current form, but it will be great to see what you and your team do to improve it!

At this point, I think I'll continue with my work-around, but I'll keep it in mind that we could get additional functionality with the professional services team.

My best,
Elizabeth
