Skins
A Skin applies a packaged style sheet and layout to your site. Skins are the easiest way to customize the look and feel of your site. Once a skin is applied, you can customize the style sheet and layout individually. Depending on the skin, it may include additional resources such as other pages and attachments.
To view the skins available, log into your site as an Administrator, slick Settings in the tools menu, and click Skins under Look & Feel. Click on any of the Skin icons to see a larger preview of the skin, a brief description, and a detailed list of the changes that will be made to your site if you apply it.
Apply a Skin
There are two ways to apply a new skin to your site. First, you can Apply a skin, which installs the necessary resources and automatically sets the default style sheet and layout on your site to use the new skin. This method may over-write customizations you've previously made to your style sheet or layout, though you can alway srevert to a previous version to get your changes back.
Install a Skin
The other method is to just Install the skin, which installs the necessary resources without changing your site's current style sheet and layout. This method allows you to test and optionally modify the skin before applying it to your site using the Styles and Layouts screens. Note that if your site is currently using the same or similar skin, this option may require you to rename your current style sheet and/or layout to prevent your current skin from changing.
Customize a Skin
Once you've installed or applied a skin, you can edit the various pages and update the attachments it installed as you like to customize it. In particular, the customize the style sheet in a skin using the Styles screen and customize the layout for a skin using the Layouts screen. Some skins may also create normal content pages (like secondary menu pages) or hidden pages that can be found in the Special Pages screen.
