Registration Information Feature

Suggested by Phil on 04-15-2006.

Since each wiki site might have specific registration requirements in order for a user to obtain wiki account access, it would be very beneficial if all new account registration requests were automatically re-directed to a default "Registration Instructions" page specific to each wiki.  That additional feature added to the main LOG IN/REGISTRATION page funtionality would allow Admins of each wiki to specify the particular requirements for new account access to their wiki.  The default "Registration Instructions" page that the main LOG IN/ REGISTRATION page redirects to could be defined in each wiki's setup configuration.  Our wiki has a page of registration instructions; http://soobahkdo.editme.com/WikiAccountRequirements  however, since a potential user's attempted entry point may be any other page of the wiki, most who request wiki account access have never seen the instructions for account registration and as a result we have an inordinate amount of unqualifiable requests for account access. If the LOG IN/ REGISTRATION auto redirected to a deflaut page for each wiki and "forced" new account requests through that link this problem would be resolved OR even if at minimum the main LOG IN/ REGISTRATION page featured a link to the default "Registration Instructions" page for each wiki that feature would be more helpful for admins seeking to qualify users requesting wiki access. The main LOG IN/ REGISTRATION page's automatic re-direct to a wiki specific "Registration Instructions" page could also accomodate the request of another admin (Robin) posted here since that page could be configured by wiki admins to capture additional fields of information for new account applicants in order to be able to identify them before granting access. Thanks for considering this feature enhancement request.

[Admin] Phil, an easy way to deal with this is to create a call to action on your home page, like "Register Here", and have it go to your instructions page. Then from there you can link to /_Register (the registration form). You can even take this a step further by modifying your site's Layout and removing the Register link from the tools menu. We can help you with that if you're not sure how it's done.

[chris] The "Regsiter Here" link could also go in the menu, or presumably by incorporated in the XSL layout as an alternative to the /_Register link.

Would either of these approaches address users who attempt to enter the wiki from links to pages other than the home page?   My experience is that when I access a link that I receive to a deeply embedded page, the Log In page appears. If I were not already a wiki user I would then follow the registration instructions found there and still miss the instructions page of the wiki I received the link from.  Or am I not understanding something how your responses address the situation of new users attempting to enter the wiki via deep links?
