How to create simple "blog" functionality?

From Ed Metz - 2008-05-26

I'm new to EditMe and so far I'm quite impressed . I know that EditMe has more features than typical blog systems, but what if you also need a basic list of dated entries for an Announcements or News page? On the Page Templates page of this wiki it states, "You can make templates for blog entries ...", but I don't see how to do that beyond creating a new page for each entry. Am I missing something?

I experimented with importing RSS feeds from Blogger, embedding a JS-Kit Comments script (pretty neat), and even the built-in Comment system .. all of which have their flaws. It looks like this Questions page uses the EditMe Comment system, but visually it just looks like one long conversation instead of seperate questions and answers. What do you use for the EditMe blog?

I'm not looking for a full-featured blogging engine, but it would be nice to have just the basics: chronological posts with the ability to leave comments. Can anyone enlighten me further? Thanks!  - Ed Metz

Ed - Yes, this page (referring to Questions) uses the built-in comments feature. In terms of a dated list of entries, it actually works quite well. We are in the process of building a simple forum module to use on this page. Our own blog uses individual pages for each entry. When we make a new post, it's written on a new page using a template that inserts the date and link back to the blog home page. Then we add an abstract to the blog list, which is on a separate page. This works quite well for us and allows each blog post to become a searchable page on the site. If you just have quick dated announcements, the comment feature might work better. We do plan to make a simple blog module available down the road.
